Update (January 15, 2015): Hardy has dropped out of Suicide Squad for reasons that are currently unknown, and Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to replace him, according to The Wrap. The film is still on track to begin shooting in April.

Original story (December 2, 2014): After many reports and rumors about the Suicide Squad cast, nearly the entire cast has been confirmed by the studio. Most, if not all, of the actors involved are those that were rumored to be in contention for the roles over the last few weeks, and it’s certainly a lot of talented actors.

The film is being labeled a “Super villain tent-pole,” and will see many DC comic villains grace the big screen where they’ll be given a chance to redeem themselves. Most of the stars of the film have been rumored previously, but we’ll lay out who will play each character below:

Jared Leto: The Joker

Will Smith: Deadshot

Tom Hardy: Rick Flagg

Margot Robbie: Harley Quinn

Jai Courtney: Boomerang

Cara Delevingne: Enchantress

In a recent interview Jared Leto said, “I do [have my eye on one project in particular]. I am excited about what’s happening, there are incredible opportunities and I’m very grateful for them. I’m looking forward to making films again now that the tour is wrapping up. It’s going to be an exciting 2015.” He was very secretive about the project, saying, “I’ve sworn to keep my mouth shut but I think that very shortly there will be something to talk about, that’s for sure.”

We have to imagine that he was talking about playing the Joker in Suicide Squad, so we’re excited to see what he’ll do with the character that was most recently made famous by the late Heath Ledger. Margot Robbie will also be interesting to watch, as she’ll be playing the popular villain Harley Quinn.

Suicide Squad is being directed by David Ayer, who helmed the recent WWII film with Brad Pitt titled Fury. There have also been other rumors concerning Suicide Squad, which include Jesse Eisenberg playing Lex Luthor in the film, after making his first appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Warner Bros.’ president Greg Silverman said, “The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”

Shooting will begin on the film in Canada in April of 2015, and we look forward to hearing more about this massively talented cast of super villains.

Suicide Squad will be released on August 5, 2016. Let us know what your first impressions of so many big-named actors starring in the film as super villains.
