Suicide Squad 2 is beefing up its star-studded cast with another big name.

According to Deadline, Doctor Who vet Peter Capaldi is the latest actor to join the cast of Suicide Squad 2.

The Academy Award winner joins a star-studded cast, which includes returning Suicide Squad alums Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman. The returning actors are set to reprise their roles as Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang, and Rick Flagg, respectively.

In addition to Capaldi, it’s also being reported that the sequel (titled The Suicide Squad), could be adding Saturday Night Live cast member Pete Davidson to its cast as well.

It should be noted that Davidson’s role is said to me more of a cameo. That being said, it sounds as though Capaldi’s role is set to be a bit bigger than a mere cameo.

Unfortunately, those curious to know who Capaldi could be playing will have to sit tight. As with previous casting rumors and announcements, the studio is currently keeping role specifics close to the chest for now.

Capaldi’s casting comes hot on the heels of word that Taika Waititi is also reportedly in talks to star in Suicide Squad 2.

Waititi’s potential involvement on the project is especially interesting given his ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Waititi, of course, served as director on Thor: Ragnarok, and currently is hard at work on follow-up film, Thor: Love and Thunder.

Though best known for his directing skills, he’s no stranger to acting. In fact, Waititi fans can next catch him in the upcoming comedy Jojo Rabbit, set to be released in theaters on October 18.

Other newcomers who’ve reportedly signed on to star in The Suicide Squad include Idris Elba, John Cena, and Storm Reid.

2016’s Suicide Squad may have earned mixed reviews, but given the impressive ensemble cast James Gunn seems to be putting together, there’s no doubt fans will likely go flocking to theaters when Suicide Squad 2 hits the big screen.

Suicide Squad 2 is set to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
