Have you ever wished you could step into the world of a Studio Ghibli movie? Well very soon, you’ll be able to do just that!

Studio Ghibli has brought us so many animated movies that swept us into fantastical, magical worlds. With films like Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, and more, there are so many wonderful worlds to explore in a Ghibli movie.

Naturally, we’ve all thought at one point or another how we’d love to actually step foot into those flicks. And the good news is, we’ll be able to soon enough. Studio Ghibli has announced that it will be making a theme park of its very own in Japan.

As Variety reports, Studio Ghibli will be building its park within the Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park, a spot close to Nagoya in central Japan that housed the World’s Fair back in 2005. The spot spans nearly 460 acres and managed to hold 22 million people in 2005. So basically, there is a lot of room to make this park truly amazing.

The park is set to open in the fall of 2022 and will have additional attractions opening up within the park a year later. At this point, there are five areas expected to be in development in this new park, with one section based on a Ghibli film.

And in case you’re worried that a non-Ghibli team is coming in to recreate these iconic lands, don’t worry. Ghibli is covering the creative side of the park’s development, and Hayao Miyazaki himself is taking a very active role in the park’s development.

In fact, as Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki told Variety, you couldn’t get Miyazaki to delegate the park’s development even if you wanted to. She joked with the reporter, saying, “He can’t leave anything up to other people. He’s a meddlesome old man. [Hayao Miyazaki’s son, Goro] is working hard [on the park], but [Miyazaki] is not the type to look on supportively from a distance. He starts in right away with ‘do this’ and ‘don’t do that’.”

We can’t wait to see what this park will turn into, but with Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki taking an active role in the park’s development, we know it will be absolutely awesome. The yet-unnamed park will open in fall of 2022, so get your travel plans ready!
