Stranger Things season 4 has just released its first teaser, one that reveals the final fate of fan favorite Hopper.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Stranger Things fans! As a gift, Netflix wants you to know that everyone’s favorite Hawkins Chief of Police Jim Hopper is alive and well.

Ok, maybe it’s better to say he’s just alive, as we don’t really know how well he’s doing — though we can probably assume given the snowy, windswept landscape in which we find him that he’s probably quite cold.

Still, chilly and alive in Russia is better than stone cold dead and six feet under, which is where it looked like he might have ended up given the way that Stranger Things season 3 ended.

At the end of season 3, it seemed as though we had seen the end of Jim Hopper, who sacrificed himself in the explosion that was meant to close the gate to the Upside Down in order to put an end to the the Mind Flayer once and for all.

However, we now have confirmation that that didn’t spell the end of our beloved Hopper.

“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper,” Matt and Ross Duffer, the writers and creators of the show, stated. “Although it’s not all good news for our “American”; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human…and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.”

“Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet,” the brothers continued. “And we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.”

No word yet on when Stranger Things season 4 will drop.
