Stars from ’80s hits The Goonies and Aliens are joining the creepy fun for Stranger Things season 2.

Sean Astin, who starred in the classic ’80s flick The Goonies, will join the cast of the breakout Neflix series as Bob Newby. Entertainment Weekly describes Bob as “a kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce and Hopper, and now manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.”

Aww, you guys. Remember RadioShack?

The Lord of The Rings actor should fit in perfectly with the quirky, retro-tech-happy atmosphere of Hawkins, Indiana. The Goonies, of course, was a major influence on the series, but we can’t help but hope for a few references to Samwise Gamgee and Mr. Frodo in Stranger Things season 2.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, Paul Reiser of James Cameron’s Aliens has been cast as one Dr. Owens. Owens sounds like the kind of guy sent to Hawkins for reasons directly counter to our plucky gang of child stars.

“A high-ranking member within the Department of Energy,” Owens is sent in “on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.”

It’s probably too much to hope that said containment won’t have anything to do with Will Byers.

Finally, Stranger Things season 2 has added a fresh face to the roster. Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen will play Roman, a young girl with some familiar-sounding secrets.

According to EW, Roman is “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab…”

Hmm. Where have we heard that before?

Stranger Things season 2 just recently kicked off production, with breakout star Millie Bobby Brown promised to return as the enigmatic Eleven. The principle cast includes Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Chief Hopper, and Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler.

The season is comprised of nine episodes, and mostly remains shrouded in mystery. But Harbour and Brown offered a few tantelizing teases at last month’s New York Comic Con, and promised that fans wouldn’t be disappointed.

“We did get the first couple of scripts,” Harbour said. “And it’s insane.”

Stranger Things season 2 hits Netflix in 2017.
