It is summer in Hawkins, Indiana, but it’s no time to chill. Stranger Things 3 released a new trailer, and the stakes are high this year.

Thanks to the less-than-ethical experiments run by the Department of Energy in Hawkins, Indiana, the city has had its fair share of trouble. But in Stranger Things 3, it’s the summer of 1985 and this one summer could change the city and the world forever, and it’s up to Eleven and her friends to keep us all safe.

Netflix released a new trailer for Stranger Things 3, and it showed us just how much is on the line this season. Because unlike before, it looks like whatever monsters are lurking in the shadows in Hawkins have their sights set on a lot more than just Hawkins.

Last season, Eleven closed the gate to the Upside Down, but none of us really believed that would solve Hawkins’ pesky monster problem, did we? It seems that, while the gate may be successfully sealed shut, Eleven might have accidentally trapped a pretty powerful monster over on this side of the gate with all of us.

Will Byers might not be currently possessed by a Mind Flayer like last season, but he asks a pretty chilling question in the trailer: what if he’s trapped on this side of the gate with all of humanity, and he’s searching for another host? From what we see in the trailer, the monster seems to find one in the form of Billy Hargrove. It’s not clear how long Billy will remain possessed (or if the trailer just tricked us when trying to show us the actual next victim of the Mind Flayer), but it’s clear that the Mind Flayer and whatever other creatures Eleven may have trapped on this side of the gate, they’re not messing around.

This season looks like it is going to be intense, and we can’t wait to see how Eleven, Lucas, Mike, Dustin, Will, Max, and the rest of our friends in Hawkins save the world this time. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long to see Stranger Things 3. The new season will premiere only on Netflix on July 4.
