With the addition of the Coen brothers, Steven Spielberg may make his Tom Hanks starred Cold War drama his next movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steven Spielberg has tapped Joel and Ethan Coen to come in and rewrite the script for his Cold War drama that will star Tom Hanks.

The currently untitled Cold War drama tells the true story of James Donovan, an attorney who found himself in the heart of the war when he negotiated with the KGB for the release of U-2 spy plane pilot Gary Powers.

The project has been slowly coming together since last year, but it picked up steam in late April when Tom Hanks signed on to star in the movie. Spielberg then reportedly was considering directing the movie, and with the Coen brothers coming on to write, it would seem likely Spielberg will direct the film.

The original script was written by Matt Charman. The Coen brothers will rewrite that script, and it’s unknown how close they’ll stay to Charman’s draft. Given the Coen brothers’ two screenplay Oscars (Fargo and No Country for Old Men, it will be exciting to see their draft.

With Hanks starring, the Coens writing, and Spielberg directing, this Cold War drama is certain to be an Oscar contender whenever it does get produced. Spielberg has many potential projects on his plate like Robopocalypse, a big budget sci-fi film, Montezuma, a film centering around Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes and the titular Aztec ruler, an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG, and a religious period drama that DreamWorks is developing with The Weinstein Company. It’s appearing likely that this Cold War project may be his next, and it may shoot this September.
