Production began on the book-to-film adaptation of Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs today. To mark the occasion, the studio confirmed the cast and a couple details for the first time.

Steve Jobs will star Michael Fassbender in the role of the Apple co-founder, and he’ll be supported by several big stars.

“Kate Winslet [stars] as Joanna Hoffman, former marketing chief of Macintosh. Steve Wozniak, who co-founded Apple, is played by Seth Rogen, and Jeff Daniels stars as former Apple CEO John Sculley. The film also stars Katherine Waterston as Chrisann Brennan, Jobs’ ex-girlfriend, and Michael Stuhlbarg as Andy Hertzfeld, one of the original members of the Apple Macintosh development team,” the press release states.

Filming will take place around San Francisco, where Jobs and Wozniak grew up and where Apple’s headquarters resides today.

Universal also confirmed today that the film will tell the story of three major Apple events: “Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, the film takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter.”

The first two events are said to be the introduction of the original Mac and the introduction of Jobs’ computer for NEXT, which he developed after (temporarily) leaving Apple.

Steve Jobs is directed by Danny Boyle and has a script by Aaron Sorkin.

As younger Apple fans, we would’ve preferred to see Jobs during the introduction of the iPod and the iPhone — two modern, iconic moments for the Apple founder which’ve brought the company to enjoy the massive success it’s experiencing today.

Perhaps Steve Jobs 2 can shed light on those keynotes? Just kidding. Kind of.
