After Bruce Willis dropped out of Woody Allen’s upcoming movie, Steve Carell stepped in to replace him.

Bruce Willis and Steve Carell — not exactly easy to mix up, are they?

Yet Woody Allen has picked Carell to replace Willis, who dropped out of Woody Allen’s untitled upcoming project earlier this month.

The reasons for Willis’ departure have not been disclosed, although according to Collider, insider reports suggest that Willis had trouble remembering his lines.

We would have liked to see Willis in a Woody Allen film, especially after seeing him in Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Willis might be best known as an action star, but his comedic timing is pretty spectacular.

All the same, Steve Carell’s dark, self-effacing humor certainly fits with Woody Allen’s style of comedy, and we’re looking forward to seeing the pair work together.

Carell joins Blake Lively, Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Parker Posey, Max Adler, Corey Stoll and Anna Camp in Allen’s untitled project, which is set for release in 2016.

At the 2015 Oscars, Steve Carell scored a Best Actor in a Leading Role nomination for his role in Foxcatcher. Carell was almost unrecognizable as John du Pont, an eccentric millionaire who invited an Olympic wrestler to live and train at his estate.

Ultimately the award went to Eddie Redmayne for his role in A Theory of Everything, but the nod proved just how aware Hollywood is of Carell’s versatility. We hope Woody Allen uses Carell to his full ability in this new movie!
