This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown has landed his next big screen role.

According to Variety, actor Sterling K. Brown has officially boarded Fox Searchlight’s upcoming biopic, The Fence.

The new film is based on a book written by award-winning Boston Globe journalist Dick Lehr. It follows the true story of an African American undercover cop named Michael Cox.

Following one of the largest police chases in Boston history, Cox winds up being brutally beaten by his own force after he is mistaken for a suspect.

Following the brutal beating, Cox searches for answers and for justice. Both will be hard to come by, however — especially with the Boston Police Department aggressively trying to cover up the attack.

Peter Nicks has been tasked with directing the upcoming biopic, while George Pelecanos and Dennis Lehane will join forces to adapt the script from Lehr’s book.

Pelecanos and Lehane have been shopping the book around for quite some time. They even pitched it at HBO before Searchlight scooped up the rights to turn it into a film.

It’s been a pretty big week for Brown, whose last big screen credits include Marvel’s Black Panther and The Predator.

The Emmy-winning actor scooped up a nod at the 2019 SAG Awards in the Best Actor in a Drama Series category for his work on NBC’s hit drama, This Is Us.

Coming up next, fans can catch Brown on the big screen in A24’s Waves, Paramount’s The Rhythm Section, and lending his voice to Disney’s highly anticipated Frozen sequel, Frozen 2.
