This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor. However, his acceptance speech was cut off on stage.

Huge congratulations to all the winners of the 2017 Emmy Awards. We’ve got a full list of winners here that reveals how Sunday’s ceremony paid homage to an unprecedented number of diverse talent in Hollywood.

One of the night’s big winners was Sterling K. Brown, whose role as Randall Pearson on NBC’s hit drama This Is Us won him the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Brown is the first black actor to win in this category since Homicide: Life on the Street‘s Andre Braugher won in 1998.

But when Brown went on stage to accept his award, it led to one of the night’s biggest upsets: his speech was cut off by loud Emmy music, which audiences have noted was odd considering that other stars were able to give much longer soliloquies.

Variety was one of the outlets that caught up with Brown backstage, however, and were able to hear what would have been his entire speech:

Here’s Sterling K. Brown’s full backstage speech:

“I wanted to thank our writers. A show doesn’t get seven acting nominations without some impeccable, beautiful, thoughtful writing. You guys are our life’s blood, so I want to thank you so much. To our producers and directors, in particular: John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, and the crazy-cool Ken Olin. I thank you for your guidance and friendship.

And I wanted to thank Dan Fogelman. He is the Hebrew hammer with which our house was built. He makes me laugh and cry in equal parts, and keeps me coming back for more, and in his own little small special way. He’s not trying to make America great again, he’s trying to make it the best that it’s ever been, and I love him for taking me on this journey with him.

I wanted to thank my manager of 17 years, Jennifer Wiley-Stockton. You’ve been doing this for a long time, and it feels like we’re just getting started. I can’t wait to see what’s next. And to my wife, they cut me off before I got to thank my wife. Ryan Michelle Bathe, you’re everything. You make my life worth living and you gave me two of the most beautiful things that God has ever put on this planet, my sons. Andrew Jason Sterling Brown, Amaré Michael Ryan Christian Brown, your daddy loves you with the strength of a thousand suns. I’ll see you Monday after work. Love you. Thank you.”

When you win such a huge, prestigious award, obviously there are a lot of people to thank. While the Emmys have to make sure the speeches don’t run too long, we still feel like these talented individuals deserve a moment to actually celebrate these important career milestones — the Emmys are there to honor them, after all.

Congratulations to Brown and the entire This is Us team!
