Twilight and The Host author Stephenie Meyer has taken to her official website to address her production company’s optioning of the book Down a Dark Hall.

Wrote Meyer:

Hi all,

Just wanting to comment on the story Variety ran today. We weren’t going to announce this until more of the project had come together, but here goes! My production company, Fickle Fish, acquired the option to Lois Duncan’s novel Down a Dark Hall a while back. We’re developing this project with our good pals at Temple Hill Entertainment, who we are so excited to be working with again. Not too much information to share as yet, but even in this early stage, it is still very exciting. I grew up reading and loving Lois Duncan novels, and I can’t believe my good luck that I get to be involved with this project. Down a Dark Hall was my favorite of her novels (though it’s a very close race with Summer of Fear and Stranger with My Face) and it gave me some serious nightmares when I was nine. I will have more information on my Fickle Fish site for those interested when there is more to share. These things are very slow moving, though, so it will probably be a while.

In the meantime, shooting on The Host is going awesomely–and quickly. I can’t believe we’re almost done. Things are looking fairly extraordinary and I cannot wait to see what Andrew Niccol will do with all this amazing footage. However, I am not ready to be done because I am not ready to give up Saoirse, who I would happily adopt by force if I didn’t like her parents so much, and if she wasn’t legally an adult. (By the way, for those who have asked about pronunciation, Saoirse rhymes with “inertia.”)

More soonish,
Steph

We’re glad to see why Meyer picked it up now, and it was nice to receive an update on The Host too.
