There is more Stephen King coming your way. His book The Stand is getting turned into a miniseries for CBS All Access.

Stephen King is everywhere these days, and now another of his beloved books is getting adapted for our viewing pleasure. This time, his novel The Stand is being adapted for television. The book will become a miniseries that will stream exclusively on CBS All Access.

Entertainment Weekly reported that the show will be 10 episodes, and will follow a group of survivors after a deadly plague kills off most of the earth’s population. As the official synopsis says, “The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.”

Writers Josh Boone and Ben Cavell have been working on adapting King’s novel to a scripted format for years. After a long time of hustling, setbacks, and working to get others to sign on to the project, it’s exciting to see this one finally moving forward.

As for Stephen King, he couldn’t be more thrilled about the new series. King explained how excited he was to see the adaptation in a statement.

“I’m excited and so very pleased that The Stand is going to have a new life on this exciting new platform. The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they’re doing; the scripts are dynamite. The result bids to be something memorable and thrilling. I believe it will take viewers away to a world they hope will never happen.”

There isn’t any casting news yet, but EW suspects the show will release in 2020. We will keep you updated as more news breaks from The Stand.
