Josh Boone appears set to direct Stephen King’s The Stand, and Sony has set a release date for their Goosebumps adaptation.

Josh Boone to direct Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’

Boone is the director of the book to film adaptation of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars which hits theaters this June. The news was first reported by The Wrap.

The Stand was published in 1978 and is regarded as one of the author’s most popular books. The synopsis from Amazon reads, “A patient escapes from a biological testing facility, unknowingly carrying a deadly weapon: a mutated strain of super-flu that will wipe out 99 percent of the world’s population within a few weeks. Those who remain are scared, bewildered, and in need of a leader.”

This will be Boone’s third time directing a feature film. His first was Stuck in Love which featured a voice cameo from King himself. The movie co-stars Jennifer Connelly, Greg Kinnear, Lily Collins, Nat Wolff and Logan Lerman.

The director retweeted a report about his involvement with The Stand which suggests the news is true.

Sony sets release date for live-action ‘Goosebumps’

The Jack Black-led adaptation of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps will open in theaters March 23, 2016. Rob Letterman will direct and Odeya Rush will be the female lead. Jack will portray Mr. Shivers, the creator of several creepy creatures that come to life.

The Goosebumps series was particularly popular in the 90s, so the movie should resonate with young adults who used to read the series by Stine. Goosebumps was turned into a television show which ran from 1995 – 1998.
