Stephen King is no stranger to having his books adapted for the big and small screen.

From CBS’ Under The Dome, to this summer’s The Dark Tower, to next month’s It, Stephen King has been lucky enough to see many of his stories adapted on film. Even so, there’s one tale no one’s tackled yet that the iconic author would love to see brought to life.

In a recent interview with Variety, King revealed that he’d love to see Lisey’s Story get the adaptation treatment. The novel, which was released in October of 2006 is one of King’s personal favorites, combines both romance and psychological horror as it weaves a tale of a widow and that of her dead novelist husband’s life.

Given that the novel essentially follows two stories, it might be difficult to bring to life on the big screen, which is why King pointed out that he’d love to see it brought to life for television.

“There’s more freedom to do stuff now and when you do a movie from a book, there’s this thing that I call the sitting on a suitcase syndrome. That is where you try to pack in all the clothes at once and the suitcase won’t close, so you just sit on it until it latches,” King told Variety, while also explaining that when it comes to adaptations, it’s tough to pack all the finite details from the novels into a film that’ll eventually hit the big screen.

“It’s tough to take a book that is fully textured and has all the wheels turning and do it in two hours and 10 minutes. But as a TV sow you have 10 hours,” said King.

Given how detailed King’s books tend to be, we’re sure fans of the novelist wouldn’t complain if someone wanted to adapt more of King’s novels for television, rather than for film.

In fact, though a film adaptation of The Dark Tower recently hit the big screen, we learned earlier this week that showrunner Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead, Damien) is already working with Media Rights Capital and Sony Pictures Television on adapting The Dark Tower for television.
