Comedy Central has named Larry Wilmore as successor to Stephen Colbert’s Colbert Report after he leaves for CBS’s Late Show later this year.

The new show will be called The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore and will air after Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show weeknights at 11:30 p.m.

Like Colbert, Wilmore is from Stewart’s group of Daily Show correspondents. He is currently the show’s “Senior Black Correspondent.”

According to a press release from Comedy Central, the show will have a focus on minorities (in case you couldn’t surmise that from the title). Minority Report will “provide viewers with a distinct point of view and comedic take on the day’s news from a perspective largely missing in the current late night landscape,” the network says. It “will feature a diverse panel of voices currently underrepresented in comedy and television.”

Said Stewart about today’s news, “While Larry Wilmore is a brilliant comic and showrunner, this is all just a complicated ruse to get him to move to New York and turn him into a Knicks fan.”

Added Wilmore, “I’m beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart. I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker t-shirts when I’m layering.”

Now the only question with the David Letterman retirement shake up is, who will replace Craig Ferguson at 12:30 on CBS?
