Stephen Colbert is best known for making audiences laugh, but last night, the host of The Colbert Report took a moment to make us cry as he delivered a touching tribute to his mother who recently passed away.

Stephen Colbert took a week off from his wildly popular Comedy Central show to mourn the death of his mother Lorna Colbert who was 92.

In the video, which can be watched below, Stephen takes a couple of brief pauses as he gets visibly emotional speaking about his mother who he clearly adored. Check out the video for yourself:

During the three-minute opener, Stephen choked up describing how fun his mother was noting that she used to perform stage faints on the kitchen floor of their home when he was a child.

“If you watch this show, and you like this show, that’s because of everybody who works here. And I’m luck to be one of them. But when you watch this show and you also like me…that’s becuase of my Mom.”

Stephen delivered the tribute and went on to his usual Colbert Report routine.

We wish Stephen Colbert and his family the best in what is surely a very emotional and difficult time.
