Stephen Colbert is a huge J.R.R. Tokien fan and had the opportunity to be a part of The Hobbit trilogy when he visited the set.

We’ve known for some time that he has a cameo, but in what scene?

Stephen Colbert makes his Hobbit cameo in The Desolation of Smaug when Bilbo and the Dwarves travel to Laketown, according to Yahoo. In fact, Colbert, his wife, and two of their kids appear as Laketown residents.

It’s worth noting that Stephen Fry plays the Master of Laketown, and the actor has appeared on Colbert’s show on numerous occasions. Perhaps Jackson put Colbert in Laketown because of his and Fry’s friendship.

In the movie directed by Peter Jackson, Bilbo (Martin Freeman) and company are ushered into Laketown by Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans) and later travel to the Lonely Mountain with the village’s approval. It’s within the mountain that Bilbo encounters Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch) for the first time.

A photo or video clip depicting Colbert’s cameo has yet to surface, and we may have to wait until Desolation of Smaug hits DVD/Blu-ray for us to get a good look. Until then, check out this clip from Smaug in which we see Fry’s character and others within Laketown:

Be sure to keep a close eye out during this scene in theaters. You may get a glimpse of Colbert! By the way, he’s not the only person who makes a cameo in the movie.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens in theaters December 13. It is the middle film in Jackson’s three-part retelling of Tolkien’s Hobbit book. The third film will open in theaters December 2014. Part 1, An Unexpected Journey, recently released its Extended Edition.

Thanks, Yahoo.
