CBS has released a clip from tonight’s Late Show with David Letterman in which heir apparent Stephen Colbert talks about his forthcoming gig as host of the nightly comedy talk show.

The 90-second preview of tonight’s interview finds Colbert stepping onto The Late Show stage and Letterman suggesting that he doesn’t do things the way he has over the past ten years.

“I’m going to do whatever you have done,” Colbert told Letterman, who’s scheduled to depart sometime in 2015.

“Oh no, you don’t want to do that,” Letterman responded, to laughs from the audience.

“It seems to have gone pretty well, Dave.”

“It’s gone.. on,” Letterman said of he and Paul Shaffer’s show. “They could just’ve easily hired another boob like me. But they didn’t.”

Watch a preview of the interview below. It’s worth noting that Colbert didn’t make his appearance in his signature Colbert Report character. In interviews following the announcement, Colbert has said that he will be his real self when he hosts The Late Show.

We’ll update the embedded video once the full interview is posted online later tonight.

The Late Show airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. eastern/pacific on CBS.

Colbert Report, which airs at the same time Monday through Thursday on Comedy Central, will continue to produce new episodes through the end of this year.
