Stephen Amell has officially announced his first post-Arrow gig, and it’s a wrestling drama for Starz called Heels.

While we’re all mourning the impending end of the CW’s Arrow, don’t think you’re about to suffer from a serious lack of Stephen Amell on your television screens. The actor is officially set to headline a new Starz drama called Heels, which focuses on the stars behind independent professional wrestling in a small town.

Heels is set in Georgia, and follows a family-owned wrestling company, Duffy Wrestling Association (or the DWA). Two brothers and fierce rivals (Stephen Amell being one of the brothers) are at odds as they battle for their late father’s legacy.

As Deadline explains, “In the ring, somebody must play the good guy and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel (Amell). But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.” While Amell’s character, Jack Spade, is a charismatic villain in the ring, in real life, he’s actually working hard every day as a hard-working business owner attempting to provide for his family while chasing his dreams.

Amell’s character has the drive to make the DWA a huge empire, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make the company succeed. He has a huge need for perfection and control, and as we’ll see in the show, his demanding nature can push him too far, putting his company and family at risk.

The show sounds intriguing, and Amell’s enthusiasm is kind of infectious. Not long after the news of Heels broke, Stephen Amell took to Twitter to reach out to wrestler Cody Rhodes, asking if he wanted to help make a TV show. So, from what we can tell, Amell is pretty excited about this new gig.

As most fans of Stephen Amell know, he’s a longtime wrestling fan, even stepping in the ring himself for a few events with the WWE. So while we’re sad to bid Amell’s Arrow days farewell, Heels seems like the perfect next step.

Heels is written by Michael Waldron of Community and Loki, with Mike O’Malley serving as showrunner. We’ll keep you posted as more news breaks on this exciting new show!
