Steam’s 2013 summer sale has begun, yet many PC gamers have been unable to take advantage of the generous sales, including discounts on Bioshock Infinite and new MMO Defiance.

PC gaming’s most prominent digital distribution platform is holding its annual summer sale. Even if you’ve still got a whole bunch of games lying dormant in your Steam library from the holiday sale, it’s another chance to pick up those titles that you might have missed at a heavily discounted rate.

Current daily deals include 50% off the recently released and highly acclaimed Bioshock Infinite ($29.99/£17.49) and 66% off TV-show tie-in sci-fi MMO Defiance ($13.59/£6.79).

Flash sales, which are only available for eight hours, also make their return. If you move fast, you can grab the Gold Edition of Civilization V at 75% off ($12.49/£7.49).

There are further short-term deals on Left 4 Dead 2, Hotline Miami, Don’t Starve and many more games.

You can check out all the games on sale over on the Steam store.

The rush to take advantage of these generous offers resulted in the prompt demise of Steam’s servers. Consumers had problems accessing the store, adding games to their basket and finishing their transactions.

However, if Steam follow the precedent set in previous sales, daily deals should be available for a further 24 hours after they end, hopefully allowing everyone to get a chance at completing their purchases.

This year’s summer sale runs up until July 22. As always, we recommend waiting until the final day of the sale to purchase games, unless they are offered as daily or flash deals.
