Tonight’s TGIT includes Station 19 2×03, and How To Get Away With Murder 5×04. Here’s our roundup of what happened!

‘Station 19’ 2×03 ‘Home To Hold Onto’:

The episode begins with us checking in on everyone. Andy is settling into life at Maya’s place, quite literally filling all the negative space that Maya has with stuff. Hughes wakes up next to a very attractive man blanket (her words, not mine) and proceeds to screw and tell to everyone at Station 19. Gibson learns that Miller lives on an absolutely incredible houseboat with one hell of a view. Oh, and Montgomery’s back!

Gibson learns that he gets to go on a ride along with Seattle PD, also known as Ryan Tanner.

Maya Bishop finds herself getting another pep talk from Captain Sullivan on their way to their call, a compromised ceiling indicating possible structural damage. While everyone else seems to find him prickly, she seems to get nothing but support from him. A puzzle we will just have to continue to ponder.

Station 19 arrives on the scene and finds an apartment filled with detritus due to the tenant’s hoarding. Soon, they hear a feeble voice from the dark, dank apartment. The victim has recently had heart surgery, and one of her piles collapsed on her chest, causing her great distress. The water just happened to be running when she fell, which is what is causing the enormous structural damage, threatening collapse at any minute.

They know the victim needs medical attention, but the apartment is too unstable for them all to rush in. Captain Sullivan suggests Warren, the rookie with medical expertise, enter the apartment, but Bishop disagrees. Herrera weighs less and has more experience with navigating that type of environment, and the Captain

Ryan and Gibson’s ride along starts just as you’d think it would. They bicker, argue, try and use the most predictable stereotypes of their respective jobs to make fun of each other. This only stops when they make their third traffic stop of the day. Ryan uses all his best cop instincts when a normal speeding stop signals that there might be more going on. A multitude of signs, including a jittery father, a duffel bag on the seat with kids pajamas in it, and a wedding ring tan with no wedding ring suggest that maybe this is more than just a routine speeder.

Ryan was right. The father is guilty of custodial interference. He’s abducted his child from her mother and intends to run. Gibson is more than a little impressed with Ryan’s instincts.

Herrera enters the apartment and keeps Evelyn talking so she can try and find her. She learns that Evelyn lost her husband and that is when the hoarding started. Herrera gets to the victim and assesses her. Warren diagnoses cardiac tempenade. Fluid is accumulating in the thin sack around her heart. He advises Andy to use the biggest needle she has and to try and drain the fluid.

We don’t see Andy perform the procedure, but when we see Evelyn’s smiling face appear in the doorway on a backboard, we know that Herrera was successful. Just after they remove Evelyn from the apartment, the building creaks again, hinting that everything is about to collapse. Andy reaches out for the Captain’s hand and he pulls her to safety as everything falls out from under her.

In perhaps the most impressive display in the episode, Ryan talks the nervous father out of starting a police chase. He convinces him that things aren’t hopeless yet, but if he escalates the situation, it’s likely he will never see his daughter again. Cut to the mother arriving on scene to embrace her daughter, and Gibson gets all the praise just for sitting with her. He tries to direct the mother’s thanks to Ryan, but she isn’t listening. Ryan goes on to explain to Gibson that people see a police cruiser and they are at best annoyed, at worst, scared. When they see a fire truck, people think, “heroes”.

Montgomery finally confronts Hughes in the truck bay. She lets loose on him, yelling at him because he told Warren to leave him to die in the skyscraper fire. Sullivan breaks up their yelling match to tell them not to yell in his house on his time. Oh, and Maya Bishop has officially applied for a promotion. It’s about time.

The episode wraps up with Miller, Gibson, and Ryan having a beer on Miller’s houseboat. It seems that Gibson has a newfound appreciation for Ryan, but also has some baggage he’s definitely trying to hide.

There was some nice progress made this episode. Captain Sullivan is definitely shaking things up, but it’s starting to annoy me that he is able to find commendable qualities in just about everyone but Herrera. He only ever seems to pick at her. She is bringing it upon herself a little thanks to her running mouth, but hopefully they will bond over something soon.

Next week is another dangerous fire and it looks like one hell of a call for Station 19.

‘How To Get Away With Murder’ 5×04 ‘It’s Her Kid’:

If How to Get Away with Murder season 5, episode 4 only accomplished one thing, it was giving me a deep personal investment in Mr. Leahy’s case. I’m ready to give up my weekend along with the rest of the Keating 5 to fight to get him out of prison. His hope and excitement was completely contagious in this episode. How dare Nate break that man’s heart at the end. I mean, he obviously did the right thing…but still.

Like Connor, I’m dying to know why Annalise chose himself and Michaela for the Keating 5 way back in season 1. Michaela is a true superstar, so perhaps it was simply that for her (although it seems like it’s always more than that), but what could it be for Connor?

Did she see his Humper profile and realize he’d do what/whoever it takes to get the job done? I really hope she eventually caves and tells him. I’ve really enjoyed seeing their relationship change and grow since season 4, and I feel like that will be crucial information to divulge for them to move forward.

Speaking of Michaela’s superstardom, she got one step closer to winning Tegan over in How to Get Away with Murder season 5, episode 4. Not only does she know how to flaunt herself and her connections to get the job done, but she’s also willing to put in the foot work to make things happen. Sooner or later, Tegan will see that they need to team up again. I’ll just sit here, patiently waiting…

How to Get Away with Murder 5×04 was a rough one for both Bonnie and Asher, but I did like their conversation. Asher is still feeling left out and lost, while everything was finally going right for Bonnie until Annalise hit her with the bombshell about her sister and child.

We never got to see much of Bonnie and Asher’s relationship, since they were usually working and Bonnie was his superior, but it always seemed like they had a strong connection and partnership. Whether they end up getting back together or not, I hope they can continue helping each other through their problems. If only because I’m not sure who else Asher is going to talk to, at this point.

Is it just me, or did that final scene really make you think that Nate isn’t making it through this season? My guess is that Annalise is reacting to whatever Frank told her, so could it have something to do with Nate? Although, since it’s Frank, it could also be about Gabriel. Seriously, who the hell is he talking to about that kid? And why is Gabriel actually sketchily looking up everyone’s past?

Before this episode of How to Get Away with Murder, I would’ve gladly lost Nate to save Oliver, but now that Nate’s dad is in the picture, I don’t know what to think. I’ll just have to wait and see what clues they give next episode to reassess how I feel. I guess that’s the magic of How to Get Away with Murder!
