Get ready to come back for second helpings of Starz’s Vida. The premium cable network has just renewed the freshman drama for a second season!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Starz officially announced on Tuesday that they’re bringing back their new half-hour drama Vida for season 2.

The series, which was created by Tanya Saracho focuses on two estranged Mexican-American sisters who find themselves returning to their old neighborhood in Los Angeles’ East Side following the death of their mother. Once there, they find themselves struggling to come to terms with their mother’s true sexual identity — something she kept hidden from them for years.

Since it premiered on May 6, Vida has slowly gained notoriety amongst television critics for its layered storytelling which not only includes the subject of sexual identity, but also dives deep into subjects such as cultural identity, gentrification, homophobia, activism, and much more.

Critics aren’t the only ones taking notice — in fact, the series has also gained notoriety amongst the Latinx community it strives to portray.

In a statement announcing the renewal of the series, Starz CEO Chris Albrecht revealed that Vida’s ability to “attract a young, new Latinx audience” to the network was a huge factor in deciding to renew it for a second season.

Vida has delivered on its promise of attracting a young, new Latinx audience to the Starz platform, as we had hoped it would, and we are pleased to be able to announce a second season of the series,” said Albrecht via statement. “With these new episodes, Tanya and her team now have the opportunity to take audiences even deeper into the lives and community of the Hernandez sisters, and we look forward to bringing the next chapter of their story to life.”

Given that the news of a season two comes just days after the half-hour drama aired their first season finale, we’re sure the cast and crew are just as thrilled as the fans are to find out that we’ll soon be able to continue following sisters Lyn (Melissa Barrera) and Emma (Mishel Prada) on their journey.

There’s no word yet on when Starz plans to premiere Vida season 2, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for an official date!
