Yet another Team StarKid side project is in the works as StarKid actress Jaime Lyn Beatty announces her debut EP as a singer-songwriter. The EP, to be titled Dolphin Safe Tunes, is currently being funded via Kickstarter.

More and more independent artists are choosing to Kickstart projects that they may not have the capital to fund in advance, and thanks to Team StarKid’s loyal fan base, Jaime Lyn’s EP is already over one-third funded in its first day, with 26 days to go in the campaign.

From Jaime Lyn’s Kickstarter page:

Dolphin Safe Tunes is a collection of songs I’ve been working on for the past two years. This EP is my maiden voyage into songwriting and I’m all at once excited, terrified, and jazzed (all puns, ALWAYS intended)! A tip of the hat to classic cabaret acts and Motown funk, these tunes are enriched with equal parts silliness and sass! I can only hope you have as much fun listening to them as I had writing them!

The Dolphin Safe Tunes Kickstarter offers a variety of backer perks, ranging from a personalised postcard to a digital download of the album to a private Skype concert. Higher levels of support continue the ocean theme of Dolphin Safe Tunes, and include a day trip to Shedd Aquarium or a dolphin-swimming course with Jaime Lyn.

The project’s pitch video, which features Jaime Lyn dressed as a mermaid and cameos from fellow StarKids Lauren Lopez, Julia Albain and Joey Richter, is the usual combination of tongue-in-cheek cheesiness and bloopers highlighting their “incompetence” that we now deem synonymous with a Team StarKid announcement. However, Jaime Lyn, who played the lead roles of Ginny in A Very Potter Musical and Sally in Me and My Dick, is widely renowned as Team StarKid’s most powerful female vocalist and was a featured soloist on both 2011’s SPACE Tour and 2012’s Apocalyptour. So the finished product of her debut EP is set to impress sheerly through the power of her voice.

You can watch the announcement video for Dolphin Safe Tunes below:

If you are unfamiliar with Jaime Lyn’s voice, here’s a video of her and her Harry (Darren Criss) singing ‘Not Alone,’ a number written by Darren which Ginny sings during A Very Potter Musical and Darren now performs as a solo musician.

Will you be backing Jaime Lyn’s Kickstarter or grabbing the finished product of Dolphin Safe Tunes when it comes out? With Lauren Lopez’s cookbook, Eric Kahn Gale’s novel, Joe Moses’s stand-up career and now this EP from Jaime Lyn, which StarKid would you next like to see branch out with an individual creative project?
