Are you ready for a Star Wars theme park at Walt Disney World? While a formal announcement has not been made, a reliable report today indicates the expansion has received the green light.

The Star Wars theme park, which will technically be a “land” as opposed to a solo park, will be a part of Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Florida.

Reportedly confirmed by Theme Park Insider, the Star Wars land is aiming to open in 2018 and will most likely replace the Muppets theater and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids attractions.

The two outdated attractions currently sit near the recently revamped Star Tours ride, thus making it possible for Disney to expand the surrounding area with Star Wars-themed rides, shops, and a restaurant (or two).

After their $4 billion acquisition of Lucasfilm last year, Disney is naturally looking at all ways possible to expand their Star Wars empire to earn their money back. In recent months we’ve learned that Disney will be creating Star Wars Episodes VIIIX.

In addition, in between the Episodes movies they will release solo Star Wars movies each focused on a particular character.

The Star Wars theme park isn’t the only plan for Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World.

Theme Park Insider’s same report also says that Cars Land – based on the two movies of the same name by Pixar – will open at Hollywood Studios too. Cars Land opened one year ago today at Disney’s California Adventure park at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.

It has proven to be a huge success and is anchored by the E-ticket racing attraction Radiator Springs Racers.

Disney has felt the heat from Universal in recent years thanks largely to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando. Since the Harry Potter world opened, Disney has announced that they are developing Avatar Land for its Animal Kingdom park (based on James Cameron’s film).

Construction on the land has not begun, and no rides have been announced.

What attractions would you like to see in a ‘Star Wars’ theme park?

Thanks, Theme Park Insider.
