The new faces of Star Wars Resistance start coming to life in a new clip from the animated series.

Creator Dave Filoni, who now has his hands full with the Clone Wars revival, says that Star Wars Resistance tells a story set outside the bigger movements of the galaxy. According to Filoni, the new animated series will generate “a sense of childlike fun and adventure” in between the great galactic wars.

The video also offers a more detailed introduction to the new faces of Star Wars Resistance. Main character Kaz is “a fish out of water” in his new home, and though recruited to run missions for the Resistance, is “good at flying, not so good at spying.” (But hey, Poe Dameron can show him the ropes!)

Kaz’s mechanic team is a diverse crew of personalities designed to intrigue the younger audience of Star Wars Resistance. The mechanic Yeager (Scott Lawrence) lends a bit of gravitas to the crew as an old-school resistance pilot, while former pilot Tam copes with disappointed dreams and the alien Neeko deal with the brand-new thrill of adventure.

“We made the show for a younger audience,” says Executive Producer Athena Yvette Potrillo, who promises that Star Wars Resistance will be “unique in tone [and] unique in look” from previous Star Wars projects.

The wry, scrappy tone of the new series is also clear from the recently-released poster. The caption, above a hero shot of some of the crew (and BB-8!) reads, “Some heroes stick to the plan. Others just wing it.”

Star Wars Resistance will premiere on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 10:00 p.m. on the Disney Channel.
