The rebels pull out all the stops to rescue Kanan, and it may cost them everything on the Star Wars Rebels season finale.

The episode, titled “Fire Across the Galaxy,” looks absolutely jam-packed with lightsaber battles, emotional moments, and general epicness. Given what happened on last week’s episode of Star Wars Rebels that isn’t hugely surprising, but it’s really cool to see that the series is delivering on its considerable promise.

On last week’s episode, Kanan was tortured by Grand Moff Tarkin and Inquisitor while the crew of the Ghost fought to find where their Jedi was being held. Following the orders of the mysterious Fulcrum, Hera initially called a halt to the search, but Ezra rebelled and made a deal with the uber-shady Vizago in exchange for information.

After some fancy flying and droidicide, the crew found out that Kanan was set to be transferred to the Mustafar system – “where Jedi go to die.”

But judging by two super-nifty promos for the Star Wars Rebels season finale, the arrival of a familiar, masked, heavy-breathing antagonist will make the lava planet will be the least of Kanan and the rebels’ worries.

And as if Darth Vader weren’t scary enough, a movie-style trailer for “Fire Across the Galaxy” makes it clear that the stakes are even higher than the rebels – and their fans – might realize.

Between the promised reveal of the rebel leader Fulcrum, the arrival of Darth Vader, a potentially final showdown between Kanan, Ezra, and the Inquisitor, and the repeated suggestion that someone “will fall,” our expectations for tonight’s episode are just about hitting the stratosphere.

And hey, there’s no need to take our word for it.

Star Wars Rebels season 1, episode 13, “Fire Across the Galaxy,” airs tonight at 9:00 p.m. on Disney XD.
