The Star Wars Rebels season 4 trailer reveals the premiere date for the final season, and shows the poo-doo getting real from Yavin to Mandalore.

As announced at Star Wars Celebration this year, the upcoming fourth season of Star Wars Rebels will be its last. But while the news is bittersweet, the trailer for the new season suggests that this deadline will lift the animated series to previously unreached heights.

The trailer reveals that the final season will premiere on Monday, Oct. 16. Like the best of Star Wars Rebels, the season 4 trailer blends compelling character moments with politics, philosophy, and drama.

Bo-Katan (voiced by Katee Sackhoff) returns from The Clone Wars to highlight the conflict on Mandalore, while Saw Gerrera rejects Mon Mothma’s directives from Yavin. At the same time, the timeline of Star Wars Rebels season 4 seems to veering straight into the territory of Rogue One, as Governor Tarkin threatens Thrawn with Project Stardust.

And all the while, the glowing threads of Star Wars mythology — particularly that very strange, maybe-Ahsoka wolf — thread through the drama.

The Star Wars Rebels season 4 trailer also makes it clear that several characters will be reaching critical moments of realization. Ezra, obviously, is at the center of the spiritual and political morass.

But Kanan and Hera’s stories also seem to be coming to a head, with Hera the target of an Imperial plot, and Kanan pushing her to make choices in their long-simmering relationship. Get ready for #Kanera feels, folks!

All told, it definitely looks like the crew of the Ghost will be faced with their most defining choices in the final season.

“Pick a path, and all is done,” Ezra recites at the start of the trailer. As the flash of lightsabers and the spark of blasters fade away, the Star Wars Rebels trailer returns to the same theme.

“All the paths are coming together, right?” Ezra asks.

“I’m just not sure if we’re going to like where they lead,” answers Kanan.

Maybe not — but it seems like fans of Star Wars Rebels certainly will.

Star Wars Rebels season 4 premieres on Monday, Oct. 16 on Disney XD.
