Lando Calrissian took the Ghost on a wild ride in Star Wars Rebels season 1, episode 9. Read our recap and share your thoughts on “Idiot’s Array”!

Idiots

Zeb adds Chopper to the betting pot in a game of sabacc. Unfortunately, his opponent has an Idiot’s Array — the winning hand. Kanan is forced to agree to help the fellow smuggle cargo past the Imperial blockade around Lothal; the payment will include the return of Chopper.

Oh, and by the way, this guy’s name is “Lando Calrissian” or something.

Hera is unfazed by the job (the Ghost can mask its signature and pass the blockade undetected), but she is colossally pissed displeased to learn that Chopper has been bargained away. Chopper’s feelings on the subject are… complicated, but he refuses to take orders from anyone but Calrissian.

Calrissian admires Sabine’s art, making Ezra suspicious.

Bait and switch

Hera, Kanan, Sabine, and Chopper accompany Calrissian to his supplier, a creature named Azmorigan. Hera hopes he has a backup plan.

“No fear, Captain,” says the self-styled entrepreneur. “If a comet hits, this ship has escape pods.”

Translation: “I’m going to trade you for mining equipment, so get out of here in an escape pod when you get a chance, K?”

Which is more or less what happens.

Disguises

Back on the Ghost, Hera gut-punches Calrissian — because she is flawless — who warns her that unless they get past the Imperial blockade, the crew will have no payment and no Chopper.

Meanwhile, Ezra and Zeb are idiots have opened Calrissian’s “sophisticated mining equipment” and discover a creature called a puffer pig. Terrified by Zeb, the pig puffs up just outside the cockpit. With Hera trapped on the other side, Kanan has to pilot the Ghost through the blockade.

Calrissian asks Chopper to fix the ship’s signature-mask-thing, which the droid does just in time to sneak them through.

…sort of.

Unfortunately, Ezra’s attempt to interrupt Calrissian’s conversation with Sabine makes the pig puff further, bouncing Zeb backward onto the control panel and disabling the signature modulation.

With the Ghost revealed, Kanan races the ship down to Lothal, barely managing to make it safely.

Price tag

The Ghost lands on Calrissian’s plot on Lothal, where the puffer pig begins sniffing for precious metals. Unfortunately, Asmorigan is waiting for them… and he’s pissed.

A firefight breaks out, and Ezra get the chance to use the blaster bit of his lightsaber. Chopper tows a fuel canister toward the Ghost, and shoots Asmorigan with the ship’s guns when the crime lord holds Zeb at blasterpoint.

Hera orders Asmorigan to leave, and confronts Calrissian with the fact that he has no credits to pay them. He gives them back Chopper, but Hera says Calrissian owes her one.

The crew is delighted to find that Chopper has stolen Calrissian’s fuel — but the joke might be on them.

“Of course I knew they took the fuel. That’s why I didn’t pay them!” Lando tells the puffer pig, waving at the Ghost as it lifts off from Lothal. “Till we meet again!”
