A mixed-up prophesy is cleared up, and Darth Maul is still super emo in Star Wars Rebels 3×10.

“Visions and Voices” is another episode of Star Wars Rebels crafted to appeal to fans of The Clone Wars. That’s not a bad thing, but the arc of the tale may leave those who didn’t catch that series a bit bewildered.

Star Wars Rebels 3×10 begins with Ezra experiencing a considerably delayed reaction to his holocron-mind-meld with Maul. Concerned, Kanan brings Ezra to the Bendu, where Maul confronts them. Maul threatens to reveal Chopper Base to the Empire unless Ezra joins him, and Ezra agrees.

Followed by Kanan and Sabine, Maul takes Ezra to his home planet of Dathomir. In addition to a creepy shrine to Duchess Satine (see: The Clone Wars) and the darksaber (also see: The Clone Wars) Maul has a plan.

Apparently, Ezra severing the holocron connection caused Maul’s answers to enter Ezra’s mind, and Ezra’s to enter Maul’s. Instead of just using their words to sharing what they learned, Maul uses the magic of the Night Sisters to brew a potion, melding their minds once again.

Ezra and Maul’s eyes turn poisonous green, and they each comprehend the information they need. “It ends where it began,” Maul says. “A desert plant with twin suns!” Ezra, seeking the key to destroying the Sith, realizes that someone is alive.

As the spirits of the Night Sisters rear up to take their payment, Kanan and Sabine arrive and are possessed. Maul and Ezra flee the cave, and Maul is like, “Oh gee, what a crazy random happenstance! I guess you should definitely be my padawan now!”

Ezra isn’t swayed, though Maul entreats him with his knowledge. “Our futures converge on a planet with two suns! We can walk that path together!” he says. “As friends. As brothers!”

Ezra refuses to leave his friends, so a disappointed Maul leaves Dathomir. Ezra goes back inside and fights the possessed Sabine, who wields the darksaber. He is able to Force-push her outside the cave, where the spirits cannot go. He then tries to retrieve Kanan, convincing the spirits to release him and take Ezra instead.

“You belong to us, boy. The debt must be paid!” the spirits shriek. But Ezra breaks the alter with his lightsaber and the darksaber, seemingly destroying the witches of Dathomir once and for all.

Sabine comes back into the cave, and Ezra tells her and Kanan what he has learned — dropping a name fans of Star Wars Rebels have been waiting to hear for years.

“The answer to my question of how to destroy the Sith is Obi-Wan Kenobi,” he says, unaware of just how roundabout an answer that was. But Maul has a head start, knowing that Kenobi is on “a planet with two suns.” Ezra knows they must find Kenobi before Maul does.

Of course, Maul should have a much greater head start than even Ezra knows. After all, the guy was on Tatooine back in The Phantom Menace, whether or not we all care to remember that. But it remains to be seen whether or not Maul’s animated incarnation will dredge up that particular memory.

Anyway, determined to find Obi-Wan Kenobi (yay!), Ezra and Kanan leave the Night Sisters’ cave. Sabine follows — but not before collecting the darksaber, and bringing it with her.
