Disney is confirming rumors that a new Star Wars attraction at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios is in development, and we’ll be learning more about it in August.

The studio’s D23 Expo announced today in a press release that they will share “teasers for new attractions based on Avatar and Star Wars.” It is the first time they’re specifically confirming that new Star Wars attractions are in the works.

The Avatar blurb is news of its own, but we’ve known for some time that an Avatar-land based on James Cameron’s story is in development at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom park.

We had told you in mid-June about the Star Wars rumors, and a separate report later in the month indicated that the Star Wars project at Disney was the largest expansion in the resort’s recent history.

Sources have said that the project will not be completed at Hollywood Studios until 2018. Both Disney World and Disneyland resorts in Florida and California currently have a “Star Tours” attraction. They both went under renovations a couple years ago (Pictured above: George Lucas rides one of the attractions).

Hypable will be covering the D23 Expo, Disney’s biannual convention in Anaheim, California. We’ll bring you any and all major announcements as they’re made.

Disney purchased Lucasfilm last year and is exploring all ways to take advantage of the Star Wars franchise. The biggest Star Wars story fans have their eye on is the Episode VII movie which will be directed by J.J. Abrams. It opens in theaters in 2015.
