Lucasfilm and Disney have reportedly narrowed down the list of actors who they’re considering for the role of Han Solo in an upcoming Star Wars spinoff focused on the big character.

Variety says Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now), Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars), Dave Franco (Neighbors), Jack Reynor (Transformers), Scott Eastwood (The Last Ride), Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson, The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Emory Cohen (The Place Beyond the Pines, Brooklyn), and Blake Jenner (Glee) are among “about a dozen” actors currently being considered to play Han Solo in his younger years.

The report also reveals that Lucasfilm “could” introduce the young Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars spinoff Rogue One, which has a month left of shooting. The movie is set between Star Wars: Episode III and Star Wars: Episode IV, meaning the character is around his late 20s. Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rogue One will tell the story of a group of Rebel spies who hope to steal the Death Star.

The role of Han Solo was made famous by Harrison Ford beginning in 1977. He reprised his role in the seventh Star Wars installment The Force Awakens last month.

Those who’ve seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens know why a Star Wars spinoff focused on Han Solo is a top priority for Lucasfilm. Without spoiling anything… let’s just say that the studio probably wants to fill some recently discovered demand.

Whoever is selected for the role will obviously have big shoes to fill. It’s possible that this Han Solo spinoff will be the start of a series of movies that the chosen actor appears in. What’s more, the person will forever be associated with Han Solo.

The spinoff — which is set to be released May 25, 2018 — will be helmed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who directed 2014’s The LEGO Movie and who are also producing an animated Spider-Man film.
