Drew Struzan, who has served as Star Wars poster designer since Episode IV, has high praise for J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens.

At this year’s D23, Lucasfilm unveiled the official hand-drawn posters for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the seventh installment in the saga which hits cinemas this December.

Like all the other Star Wars posters, this one was created by artist Drew Struzan. It is a beautiful piece of artwork featuring Daisy Ridley front and center, with John Boyega and Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren flanking her. At the bottom we’ve got Harrison Ford as Han Solo:

In his capacity as poster maker extraordinaire, Struzan has had the opportunity both to read the script, and to watch half the movie.

And in an interview with Movie Weekly, he proclaims, “Honest to god, it is far and away probably going to be THE BEST Star Wars you’ve ever seen.”

“I’ve never worked with J.J [Abrams] before,” he recalls. “We started working on it and he showed me like half the movie and it was just… a wonderful film and I know it’s going to be grand.”

In the interview, Struzan also proclaims Abrams a “fanboy,” saying that the movie Abrams has created is, “beautifully made, and it’s a wonderful story.”

That’s high praise indeed! Although we doubt The Force Awakens will top the universally loved Episode V, The Empire Strikes Back, there’s every indication that the latest installment in the Star Wars saga is going to blow the most recent trilogy out of the water.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes to a galaxy near you on December 18, 2015.
