Walt Disney Studios chairman spoke about a few things this morning including the status of the Star Wars franchise.

Horn spoke at Variety’s Dealmakers Breakfast this morning, and he had some interesting things to say about both Star Wars: Episode VII and the franchise as a whole.

First off, Horn talked about the current position of the Star Wars: Episode VII script. After director J.J. Abrams and LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy replaced Academy Award winning screenwriter Michael Arndt with Abrams and The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, it’s been unknown when the new script would be completed.

Variety write Marc Graser revealed on his Twitter account that Horn said that Disney will expect the script in January. As production of the movie will need to continue in order for the film to make its new December 18, 2015 release date, a January due date for the script makes a good amount of sense.

Graser also tweeted that Disney does not yet have a budget for the upcoming blockbuster. They expect that it will be in the $200 million range, but won’t know for sure for a while.

Also, Horn reiterated that there will indeed be a new Star Wars film every year. It’s likely that the plan of releasing the episodic film every other year with unrelated solo films in the years in between is still the one Disney and LucasFilm have in mind.

It’s interesting to note that Horn didn’t give an end date for the yearly Star Wars films. This begs the question: where will Disney go after the release of Episode IX?
