George Lucas is officially a “creative consultant” on Star Wars Episode VII, but he and J.J. Abrams have not spoken yet, though they likely will at some point.

According to Access Hollywood (via SlashFilm): George Lucas had this to say about his current involvement with Star Wars Episode VII:

I have not spoken to J.J. He’s been busy with Star Trek, and I’m sure that he’ll let me know when he’s got some questions. So, you know, that’s all going well. Kathy [Kennedy] tells me it’s working out great.

It shouldn’t raise too many red flags that Abrams and Lucas haven’t spoken yet. There likely hasn’t been too much work done on Star Wars Episode VII yet, particularly by Abrams. Abrams just recently finished up everything regarding Star Trek Into Darkness.

Lucas will be involved. Earlier this Spring, Abrams said this:

The advantage here is that we still have George Lucas with us to go to and ask questions and get his feedback on things, which I certainly will do

While Lucas will be involved to some extent, Star Wars Episode VII and the other Star Wars films to come will certainly be what he’s been least involved in with the franchise. He’s passing the torch, but he’s okay with that.

When asked about passing the torch regarding the Star Wars franchise, Lucas had this to say:

I think it’s great. I don’t have to worry about these guys any more.

If it weren’t for the fact that he sold Star Wars on his terms, it would seem like he was just saving face. He built this franchise, but it does feel like he’s truly okay with letting someone else take control.

Are you concerned with the lack of communication between J.J. Abrams and George Lucas on ‘Star Wars Episode VII’?
