Star Wars Episode VII is scheduled to be released in 2015, and it’s been expected to be released in May. Could Disney decide to push it to December?

From the very first film through the most recent Revenge of the Sith, every Star Wars movie has been released in May. It’s been expected that Star Wars Episode VII would continue the trend, especially with a summer release date all but confirmed.

With the lack of Star Wars Episode VII news at this point, speculation has begun that the release date could be pushed to December.

According to Badass Digest, sources within Disney and Lucasfilm have started talk to release it in mid December, with December 15 being the most likely. December 15 is a Tuesday, so we have to imagine that specific day at the very least is highly unlikely.

Overall, we would file this under “it ain’t happenin’ until they say it’s happenin’.” They will, more than likely, want to cash in on the summer box office. Star Wars has never suffered under that formula before.

Of course, with the last The Hobbit opening in 2014, mid-December 2015 will have an opening for a big blockbuster.

Additionally, Marc Graser of the much more reputable Variety is being told that the rumor is false:

Should ‘Star Wars Episode VII’ be released in May or December?
