The Star Wars: Episode VII cast was announced this morning, but some fans were annoyed by lack of ladies involved.

The Star Wars: Episode VII cast includes returning actors Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker as well as new actors John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. Only two out of the 13 actors are women, a very noticeable discrepancy.

Good news: it appears casting is not yet been completed. The Hollywood Reporter has it on good authority from a variety of sources that J.J. Abrams still has one important role to fill in the movie, and it’s a “substantial” female role.

Now before you suggest that they’re just reacting to the uproar from earlier today, the Episode VII script has been finalized, so it’s extremely unlikely that the role would have been added today. There’s no time to do something like that, no matter how it would affect PR.

We do not yet know how large any of the roles will be in the movie, and it’s very possible that the leads could be spread out equally between men and women who have supporting roles as opposed to leaning towards mostly men. It’s unlikely that Disney would have approved a script that was void of females in substantial roles, as that’s just not good business.

It will be interesting to find out what kind of roles each of the new actors will play. With the younger actors, it’s possible that John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Domhnall Gleeson could play potential children of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa (Solo?). Adam Driver was previously rumored to be playing a villain.

In an article earlier today, we broke down the entire announced cast and showed you which ones you may recognize, and which ones you may not.

Are you glad ‘Star Wars’ will be adding another woman?
