John Williams will likely score Star Wars: Episode VII and beyond, J.J. Abrams publicly mused today.

When Abrams nabbed the major role of helming Disney’s next Star Wars film, there were questions as to whether he would welcome back Williams or use his composing partner Michael Giacchino. The latter has composed every single one of Abrams’ films.

Speaking at a press conference for Star Trek Into Darkness in Berlin today, Abrams addressed the rumors. “[Michael Giacchino] is truly one of the most influential members of our crew, and I think this score [for Into Darkness], he really outdid himself. Again, for Star Wars, it’s very early days, but I believe that, going forward, John Williams will be doing that film, because he was there long before I was.”

Williams himself said in February, that he was hoping to work on Episodes VII through IX. “Neither I, nor George, nor anyone else involved thought this would go far or in a few years there would be a sequel and I’d have to revisit the themes…and years later another trilogy,” he told an audience at one of his concerts. “Now we’re hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, 2016…so I need to make sure I’m still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George [more cheers].”

Star Wars fans will be thrilled to hear that both Williams and Abrams are eager to have the legendary composer return to create more themes for the space world.

Episode VII is currently slated to be released in 2015. Disney recently revealed that they hope to release a Star Wars film every year beginning the same year Episode VII debuts.

We’re sure an official announcement about Williams’ involvement will be made once the papers are signed. At this point in time, it’s all positive talk from both parties.
