What’s your opinion of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by Jack Thorne? That may help you decide whether what we’re about to share is good or bad news.

Lucasfilm has hired Jack Thorne, the sole writer of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child*, to help write the ninth installment in the main Star Wars saga. He’ll be working with a script originally by IX director Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) and his writing partner Derek Connolly.

Re-writes are typically done to get a fresh pair of eyes on a story. Production is expected to begin in January — just a month after Jedi hits theaters.

Outside of Potter, Thorne wrote the upcoming book-to-movie adaptation of Wonder starring Julia Roberts and Jacob Trembalay. He’s also adapting Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials for the BBC.

*The Cursed Child’s script has been heavily criticized by Harry Potter fans. One of the most popular impressions of the script is that it reads like officially endorsed fan-fiction. J.K. Rowling and director John Tiffany worked with Thorne on the story, but it was the new Star Wars writer who was behind the script itself.

Let’s hope Thorne doesn’t work in any shocking baby news, or relies too heavily on time turning devices.
