Boba Fett will be the next Star Wars character to get the standalone movie treatment and the film already has a writer and a director attached!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, James Mangold is officially set to both write and direct an upcoming Star Wars movie based off of Boba Fett.

First introduced in George Lucas’ original trilogy during Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett is a feared bounty hunter who infamously brings Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt.

Though he was given little screen time, Boba Fett has become a fan favorite amongst Star Wars fans so we’re sure the news of the upcoming film centers around the bounty hunter will be greeted with much excitement!— especially given that not much is known about the infamous bounty hunter.

There’s definitely a lot of room to play when it comes to an origin story centered around the infamous bounty hunter, so we’ll be interested to see where James Mangold takes the story as the film moves further and further into production.

Boba Fett isn’t the only original trilogy character set to get his own standalone film.

In addition to Solo: A Star Wars Story which is set to open at the end of this week, Disney already has plans in the works to give a few other prominent Star Wars characters their own film.

Perhaps the most prominent character set to get the solo movie treatment is none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi himself. The project is still in the early stages, but the film is already working on securing Stephen Daldry to serve as director.

As with all of the recent Star Wars entities, details on both the Boba Fett and Obi-Wan stand alone films are being kept firmly under wraps for now.

With that in mind, we’ll be excited to keep following production developments on both projects!
