A gift for Benedict Cumberbatch and Chris Pine fans arrives today by way of Empire Magazine, who has released a preview of its upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness cover story in their February issue.

The magazine is offering up two versions of the cover, one featuring Benedict Cumberbatch (playing a character named John Harrison) and Chris Pine (James T. Kirk). Both have striking portraits:

Several photos from the film were also released and offering more looks at Pine and Cumberbatch as well as Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Zachary Quinto (Spock), and Bruce Greenwood (Pike). Some of these are low-res as they appeared small in the magazine’s iPad app:

Our favorite photo? Cumberbatch busting his way through a glass wall like the bad ass that he is.

The month of December has been a busy one for Trekkies. At the start of the month the first poster for Into Darkness was released and featured Cumberbatch. Stars Chris Pine and Benedict Cumberbatch, and director J.J. Abrams were in Tokyo to screen some of the film’s footage. It was their first appearance together to promote the film. A new synopsis says that “our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”

Finally, and most excitedly, this fantastic teaser trailer arrived. The first nine minutes of the film debuted in front of IMAX screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Star Trek Into Darkness opens May 17, 2013.
