Last week we shared the touching story of a terminally ill man who received an early screening of Star Trek Into Darkness from director J.J. Abrams.

The man died on Friday night, mere days after the screening.

Daniel Craft was 41 years old and died of his previously reported disease. He was diagnosed with Leukemia 3.5 years ago, underwent treatment, and was then diagnosed with another “unrelated” cancer.

Craft’s wife had revealed last week on Reddit that Abrams made the screening happen for her husband. The news of his passing surfaced on Facebook Saturday. “Last night around 10:15pm, Dan Craft, who has been a member of Subway Cinema since 2004, passed away. His wife and brother were with him when he went, and he wasn’t in any pain. He’d been a bit loopy for a few days as his liver failed and toxins built up in his blood, and on Thursday his wife asked him if he needed to go to the bathroom. “I’m going…” he proclaimed, “Into the future.”

We wish Craft’s friends and family well, and applaud Abrams once again for making a dream come true for Dan. Him and his wife were clearly very appreciative of what Abrams had offered up.

Star Trek Into Darkness opens this May.
