Star Trek: Discovery has officially been renewed for a third season at CBS All Access.

Currently in its second season on the streaming platform, the CBS All Access original Star Trek: Discovery will return for more adventures with a third season.

The third season will gain a showrunner with the addition of Michelle Paradise joining Alex Kurtzman, who will continue to herald the development of the Star Trek franchise across CBS.

“Michelle [Paradise] joined us midway through season two and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of Trek,” said Alex Kurtzman in a statement. “Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward.”

After the conclusion of the first season, Star Trek: Discovery made the bold announcement that it would intercept the adventures of the USS Enterprise and join forces with Captain Christopher Pike. So far, season 2 has lauded Pike as the interim captain of the Discovery as the crew traverses the universe trying to explain the mystery of the seven signals and find Spock.

While the second season feels more episodic, the overarching thread of hunting for Spock threads the episodes together. The season has also given more attention to Saru, Stamets, and Tilly, preventing the series from becoming too entrenched in the callbacks to the Original Series.

Little is known about the third season or how it will affect the recent spin off series starring Michelle Yeoh.

The third season will run alongside the already announced Jean-Luc Picard spinoff, as well as the half-hour adult animated comedy series Star Trek: Below Decks, and the Star Trek: Short Treks which will continue and include animated episodes.
