At a recent convention, Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee had some good things to say about The Avengers director Joss Whedon, and gave a little insight into what his highly anticipated cameo might entail.

Even casual fans know Stan Lee as the father (maybe grandfather by now) of Marvel Comics.  In each Marvel film, the legend’s cameo is highly anticipated by fans, and The Avengers will not disappoint.

Oh, [Joss Whedon’s] wonderful, I was watching him direct. He knows just what to do, he knows just how to do it. He doesn’t get flustered. Hes good with the actors, hes good with the technicians; hes just a good guy. I was very impressed with him; I’ve always been, but seeing him in action that way. It’s one of the reasons that the movie is gonna do so well.

There was only one thing – when I was doing my cameo for The Avengers, after the third take, he asked could I take off my glasses because somehow the flash of the floodlights were hitting the lens and there was a glare. So I did my cameo without wearing my glasses – so the chances are you won’t even recognize me. That was the only decision he made that I felt should’n’t have made (laughs) He should’ve fixed the lights.

I can’t talk about [the cameo], but I can tell you it is a very funny cameo – probably the funniest line that I’ve had to say yet. And I say it to Captain America. You may notice with my cameos, they don’t like me to do my cameo with the stars, because the star doesn’t need that much competition (laughing). But this time Captain America was fierce and went along with it.

Do you think you’ll be able to recognize Stan Lee without his glasses?  I guess we’ll find out on May 4th, 2012 when The Avengers hits theaters!
