We’re getting a new Spongebob Squarepants movie, and it’s gonna be a big one–the origin story of our favorite sponge, scored by Hans Zimmer.

Nickelodeon is making a brand new movie about everyone’s favorite sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea. However, while previous Spongebob Squarepants movies have focused on the sponge in his adult years, this new movie is reportedly going to give us Spongebob’s “origin story.”

Cartoon View reported that at the VIEW Conference in Turin, Italy that Mireille Soria, president of Paramount Animation, dropped the big news that the film would be called The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge, and is slated for release on July 17, 2020. The movie will play into the It’s a Wonderful Life nod in the title and will tell the story of how Spongebob Squarepants became the lovable fry cook we all know and love as well as his impact on Bikini Bottom.

Soria explained, “For the first time ever, we’re going to the get to the origin of how little Spongebob met the rest of the Bikini Bottom gang at summer camp. The film’s opening will take place at Camp Coral when all of our favorite characters meet for the first time.”

Of course, such a big story needs an equally big and vibrant score. So to ensure the emotional, musical foundation for the film is only the best, Paramount has hired Hans Zimmer to score the new Spongebob Squarepants movie. Zimmer has scored other movies like Gladiator, Interstellar, and Inception, so adding the new Spongebob movie will certainly be an interesting addition to his resume.

But from the information dropped at the VIEW Conference, The Spongebob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge is shaping up to be a really fun and exciting new adventure with our pals from Bikini Bottom. Make sure you’ve got your Krabby Patties ready in July 2020 for the movie’s big release.
