The official trailer for Steven Spielberg’s World War I drama War Horse has been released. The film is already considered an Oscar-contender, as Spielberg has already produced acclaimed war movies like Saving Private Ryan. Will this one be on par with such timeless classics?

War Horse, based on the novel by Michael Murpurgo, is already considered a great story – as the Broadway adaptation recently captured five Tony’s, including Best Play, so clearly Spielberg has a great story to work with. The story follows the destinies of Albert (Jeremy Irvine) and his horse, Joey, as their paths interweave around the brutal events of World War I.

The rest of the cast includes Oscar-nominee Emily Watson, Harry Potter stars Peter Mullan and David Thewlis, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Tom Hiddleston (Thor). If this trailer is any indication, Spielberg has many more exciting (and award-winning) war films in store.
