Tom Holland’s Spider-Man may be going up against a villain played Michael Keaton.

Variety says the actor is currently in “early talks” for the role. This is an interesting casting choice since Keaton once played the Dark Knight in 1989’s Batman opposite Jack Nicholson’s Joker.

That’s quite the jump going from the hero in Batman to the villain in Spider-Man. The actor is also known for 2014’s Birdman (another super hero-esque movie!) and 2015’s Spotlight, amongst a slew of other films over his long career.

There’s no word yet on which villain Keaton will be playing in Homecoming. Hopefully he’s not playing someone like Harry Osborn (I know, he’s probably too old for him), Green Goblin, Electro, or Doctor Octopus, since we’ve seen those villains in the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield adaptations of Spider-Man over the past decade.

Keaton aside, Spider-Man: Homecoming has already secured several cast members as the film gears up for production. Zendaya is reportedly taking on a co-starring role opposite Holland, and Marisa Tomei is set to play Aunt May. (Can’t wait? You’ll see the latter in Civil War in a scene with Peter Parker.)

Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters next year, but the Captain America threequel will be Spidey’s first time appearing in the MCU. I saw the film Wednesday and am happy to report that Tom Holland’s portrayal of the web slinger is a delight.

Holland appeared at CinemaCon on Tuesday to reveal the title of his Spider-Man movie. “It really is a homecoming for the character because throughout the story Peter is trying to find his true identity and where he belongs in the world,” the actor said of the title.

It’s also a homecoming because Spidey is finally, finally a part of the MCU.
