Spider-Man is officially the latest victim of the great COVID release shuffle.
The two untitled Spider-Man sequels have both been delayed in the large scale release date shuffle caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Variety is reporting that the Homecoming and Far From Home sequel, and the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel, have each been pushed back “several months” to accommodate schedule delays.
The third movie in the Spider-Man saga has been pushed from July 16, 2021 to November 5, 2021, while the animated sequel to Into the Spider-Verse has been delayed from April 8, 2022 to October 7, 2022.
Unfortunately, the movies will now miss their initial summer release dates, but they should be able to capitalize on the lucrative Thanksgiving and Christmas markets.
Sony and Disney will remain partners in the Spider-Man franchise after some ownership drama late last year. The Tom Holland sequel to 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home will be a part of the greater MCU.
The news of the Spider-Man delays comes after both Sony and Disney have announced huge changes to their slate of release dates.
Sony delayed almost every movie in their upcoming schedule, while elsewhere in the MCU, release dates for Black Widow, Doctor Strange 2, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther 2 and Captain Marvel 2 have all been moved.
Black Widow, which was set to come out in May of this year, is now set to release in November.

With many movies being pushed back a year or more, we’re glad these titles have only been affected by a few months. Hopefully these delays will ensure everyone involved can remain safe and healthy until it is possible to return to work.
