Marvel and Sony have yet to cast their new Spider-Man, but a new rumor suggests that Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey may be playing Norman Osborn in Spider-Man’s solo movies.

While this rumor from MCU Exchange is a fairly untrusted source, McConaughey has admitted to reading multiple comic adaptation scripts in the past, so it’s possible he could make an appearance in Marvel’s first solo Spider-Man movie. The source has previously called some rumors concerning the ending of Age of Ultron, so there is definitely some weight behind the truth of this new rumor.

The actor is highly in-demand right now, coming off of his Oscar win for his role in Dallas Buyer’s Club and his role in director Chris Nolan’s film Interstellar. The only reason we’d doubt his interest in Marvel and Sony’s new Spider-Man franchise is because it would tie him up for a multi-film contract, which we imagine he might not be too interested in.

Though, Matthew McConaughey may be looking to cash in on his popularity while he’s still churning out hit after hit. Jumping into the new Spider-Man films would be a great way to do that, and he would also be great as the Green Goblin, although he would most likely be Norman Osborn for a while before transforming into Spider-Man’s most-known villain.

McConaughey has four films set for 2016 so far, but the first solo Spider-Man film won’t hit theaters until 2017, so it’s possible he could sign on for the Norman Osborn role, and do one or two films in the new Spider-Man franchise.

The first solo Spider-Man film is set to be directed by Drew Goddard and will hit theaters on July 28, 2017, and there’s a lot of evidence that Spider-Man will show up in Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016. We look forward to finding out if McConaughey is involved in future Spider-Man films, and who will be playing the webslinger.
