Donald Glover has made his desire to play Spider-Man well known, and apparently Spider-Man: Far From Home nearly featured a cameo from the actor.

If you’ve been around the internet for long, chances are you’ve heard chatter surrounding Donald Glover expressing his desire to play Peter Parker in Spider-Man. Unfortunately, it never happened, though he has had quite a run elsewhere in the Spider-Verse, voicing Miles Morales in the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man back in 2015 and he playing Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming. And apparently, he almost had a cameo in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

As The Hollywood Reporter explains, they intended to bring Glover back for a quick cameo to reprise his role as Aaron Davis. Apparently, the plan was to have him appear in the film prior to Peter Parker’s European excursion with his classmates.

Ultimately, that idea never got explored on film. As screenwriter Chris McKenna explained to THR, including a scene with Aaron slowed down the pacing, and they needed to get the cast to Europe as quickly as possible. So even though it bummed the writers out, the scene was cut because, as McKenna explains, “Some ideas you just have to give up.”

If you’re a fan of the comic books (or the recent animated masterpiece, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), you know that Aaron Davis is the uncle of Miles Morales himself. With the success of Into the Spider-Verse and Disney’s acquisition of Fox, it’s more and more likely we’ll see some more of these Spider-Man characters in upcoming MCU flicks.

So while it’s too bad that we didn’t get to revisit Aaron Davis in Far From Home, we’re excited that the Spider-Man team is still a fan of Donald Glover’s portrayal of Davis. We can only hope that means we’ll potentially see more of Aaron Davis in a future Spider-Man movie.
